{"id":246,"date":"2011-12-16T22:32:29","date_gmt":"2011-12-17T06:32:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.luterra.com\/blog\/?p=246"},"modified":"2011-12-16T22:32:29","modified_gmt":"2011-12-17T06:32:29","slug":"lunar-eclipse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.luterra.com\/blog\/?p=246","title":{"rendered":"Lunar eclipse!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Despite having been up Marys Peak the previous evening, I convinced Liz it would be worthwhile to get up at 5 am and drive up out of the fog to catch the total lunar eclipse.\u00a0 As it turned out, at least 20 other folks had the same idea &#8211; more people than I have ever seen in the parking lot on the mountain.\u00a0 The inversion that kept the peak warm had ended, replaced by a stiff 30 mph southwest wind at about 32 degrees.\u00a0 Clouds were pouring in off the ocean, with their tops at about 3500 ft &#8211; just low enough that we still had a clear view of the sky from on top.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_216\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.luterra.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/P1030272.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-216\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-216\" title=\"P1030272\" src=\"https:\/\/www.luterra.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/P1030272-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.luterra.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/P1030272-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.luterra.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/P1030272.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-216\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Moon in total eclipse. As this was a non-central eclipse with the moon at the bottom of Earth&#39;s shadow, the bottom stayed a bit brighter.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>We hiked to the summit for the sunrise, laying low in the grass with snowpants and down jackets to keep warm in the chill moist wind.\u00a0 The view across the undulating, flowing cloud tops to the Cascade crest silhouetted against the sunrise glow was one of the most incredible sights I have witnessed.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.luterra.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/P1030280.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"P1030280\" src=\"https:\/\/www.luterra.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/P1030280-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cascade crest, with Mt.
