Labor Day Weekend Camping - Part 2

August 30-September 3, 2007

Our campsite

Saturday: Day of laundry and relaxing. Chris is not feeling well so opts to rest at the campsite. Michele and I drive up to Elkhart Park for views of Fremont Lake and the Wind River Mountains.

We drove down to the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) ponds near Fremont Lake for a short walk. )The CCC Ponds were built in the 1930s and are now maintained by the BLM.) Then dinner and back to the camp.

Sunday: Morning brought a wildlife surprise in the form of a bold squirrel with a marked interest in our food and dishes.

The remainder of Sunday brought time for crosswords and spiritual attunement, the Bourne Ultimatum movie, more Mexican food, another campfire, and a good night's sleep.

Monday: After breakfast, Michele and I set out for a visit to the Jonah gas field.

Gas wells scattered across the sage

It takes many days to drill to the gas 12,000-19,000 feet below the surface

Monday afternoon brought a channeling with spirit and the Earth Mother before the folks checked into a hotel for their last night and I headed back to Pinedale to get organized for the workweek. In the evening, I drove over to the hotel to watch "Dirty Jobs" on the Discovery Channel, open my bottle of boysenberry mead, and soak in the whirlpool.
