Oregon Country Fair

July 12, 2009

The Oregon Country Fair is Oregon's favorite hippie festival - several miles of forest paths lined with music, theater, arts and crafts, drum circles, and colorfully-costumed folks for threee summer days. Hippies abound, as do non-hippies dressed like hippies or wearing body paint instead of clothes. It is something like a Renaissance fair, except with the focus on hippie-era dress and lifestyle rather than the Renaissance.

Folks who have been at the Fair for many years can never recall a rainy day (it almost never rains here in the summer), but this year proved to be the exception. We had about an inch of rain in the morning - complete with lightning and thunder - turning the dirt paths to mud and spurring more than a few mud-wrestling matches among the folks in attendance.
